Tyhanic Captures 23rd Women’s Public Links Championship on Home Course

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. ––– Morgan Tyhanic of LBI National Golf & Resort made the most of home-course advantage on Tuesday, carding a steady 1-over par 73 to capture the 23rd New Jersey Women’s Public Links Championship at LBI National Golf & Resort.

With her brother on the bag and her parents following along, the 17-year-old Tyhanic leaned on her familiarity with the course throughout the afternoon before punctuating the victory with a birdie on the par-4, 18th.

"I'm happy it's at my home course. I feel like I played really well. I had a really good caddie with me."

Tyhanic remained composed throughout the round, using her knowledge of LBI National to navigate her way around a course she knows well. With her family alongside her for the championship, she credited her brother with helping keep her settled throughout the day.

"My parents followed the whole round. My brother was my caddie and helped calm me down. I just played well."

Tyhanic also took advantage when opportunities presented themselves, getting a few favorable breaks along the way while continuing to keep her round on track.

"I had a few lucky and good bounces which definitely helped a lot."

Her strongest moment came at the finish. Standing over a birdie opportunity on the 18th green, Tyhanic was unaware of exactly where she stood on the leaderboard but knew she wanted to give herself every opportunity to finish the championship on a high note.

"I just wanted to do the best I could, especially on the last hole. I didn't know it at the time if I had to make the putt or not but I just wanted to give it a chance and it went in."

The birdie capped Tyhanic's 1-over par 73 and secured the championship on her home course. Defending champion Sofia Myka Pangan of the NJ Golf E-Club finished just behind Tyhanic as the runner-up.

In the net division, Isabella Cautero of the NJ Golf E-Club came out on top with a net score of 3-under par 69, highlighted by a net eagle on the final hole to seal the victory. Tammy McCoy of Indian Spring Country Club finished just behind Cautero.
