Following a strong first round which saw him at the top of the leaderboard, Summers got off to a rocky start on his front nine with three bogeys and a double bogey on the 489-yard par 4 12th hole. Settling into his game, the product out of Plainfield Country Club dialed in four birdies on his back nine to keep his spot on top of the leaderboard.

“It was kind of just like a shock to the system starting,” Summers said after his round. “The conditions were different. It was a lot windier and the greens were firmer. I didn't really have a good gauge on course conditions early on.”

“I had a couple early three puts that killed me,” Summers continued. “Towards the end, I just kept saying to myself, ‘It's a 72-hole tournament. You're going to have bad nines and a couple of bad stretches. You have to go through the tough stretches and just wait for the good ones to happen.”

Vannucci, of Little Mill Country Club, fired in an even par 71 in round two, to remain 3-under par overall heading into the 36-hole finale on Wednesday.  The 2023 and 2024 New Jersey Robert Housen Player of the Year notched four birdies, including a crucial bounce-back on No. 8 following a tough bogey on the 641-yard par 5 7th hole.

“I just had that one bad swing,” Vannucci said. “Other than that, the game feels solid.”

“It happens,” Vannucci continued. “It's a long day. It's hot. I just got a little quick with it. But I rebounded good with the birdie on the next hole. Just stayed focused. I'm ready for tomorrow. Just copy and paste and do the same thing. The game feels good.”

Elliot Parker, Liam Pasternak, Sean Vowells and Reed Greyserman all share a tie for second place at 1-under par, 141 overall.

Greyserman, the 2024 Amateur Champion, jumped up the leaderboard on the second day of the tournament and carded in a second day low 4-under par 67. With a bogey-free front nine and five birdies on his scorecard, the standout from Princeton University dialed in to put himself back in contention.

“I played good,” Greyserman said. “To be honest, I’m more tired than anything. It’s hot out there, I’m carrying my own bag and it’s a long day.”

During Monday’s first round of play, Greyserman finished 3-over par with two doubles crowding his card. The 19-year-old persisted through rising temperatures on Tuesday and climbed up the leaderboard.

“I didn’t play great yesterday, but that doesn’t really change anything. The process stays the same, so I just came out with the same mindset. The putts fell today,” Greyserman finished.

With a second-round score of 2-over par 73, Elliot Parker remained in good standing for the last two rounds of the tournament. Parker, of Suburban Golf Club, recorded two birdies on his scorecard, and 12 pars to round out his day on Wednesday afternoon.

Vowells, of Canoe Brook Country Club, fired in a 1-under par 70 in the second round with three birdies through his last seven holes to close out Tuesday afternoon. The 2025 Four-Ball Champion with Henry Bolster continued his steady play from Monday’s opening round, which featured an eagle on the 281-yard par 4 14th hole.

Two-time W.Y. Dear Boys Champion (2020, 2021) and 2024 Amateur runner up Liam Pasternak fired in three birdies overall and went bogey-free on his back nine to notch in a 2-over par 73 during the second round of play.

The final round of the New Jersey Amateur Championship presented by Provident Bank will start at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9 at Essex County Country Club.
