Due to construction repair, holes 2 and 8 were not in play for the 59th edition of the Mixed Pinehurst, so the championship was contested over 16 holes.

Sharpe and Lynn started their round with a par on No. 9, the 370-yard par 4, to get their momentum rolling. "We stayed patient all day,” Sharpe said. “We played well and capitalized when we could.”

On the putting greens in particular, the pairing fed off of each other’s strategy and shot placement.

“The conditions suited us perfectly,” Lynn said. “The greens were a good speed, and our putting was strong.”

“I thought we cleaned it up well from five-to-six- feet,” Sharpe added. “That’s big in these formats where you have to wait for someone to hit the second putt.”

A bogey on No. 10, with an off-setting birdie on hole 12, steadied their back nine, where they finished strong with six consecutive pars.

“I think we both helped even amounts,” Lynn, a junior at Monmouth University said. “It helped that the girls played a shorter yardage because I could hit my drive and have more of a shot. He was able to get it on the green with my shots, and then we could two-putt or one-putt for birdie or par.”

"Abby drove it good, so it just put me in a good position,” Sharpe, a sophomore at Monmouth University, continued. “We didn’t really make too many mistakes.”

From there, the teammates made one more birdie and off-setting bogey to get to even-par. This is the pairings' first state tournament played together.

“This might be our first and last tournament playing together,” Lynn joked after their round. “We like to bicker.”

With a final stretch of two key pars on holes 7 and 9, Sharpe and Lynn closed strongly to win the championship Monday afternoon.

"It was fun because this is our last tournament before school starts,” Lynn remarked. “It’s nice to go back into school with a win and to know what we have to work on with our games.”

“It’s a good confidence boost for the fall season, and hopefully we’ll bring some of this success to (Monmouth) Hawks golf this fall,” Sharpe finished.

In the Senior Division, Jessica Kelley and Monte Mace finished with a 4-over par 67 to take home the title.

In the overall and Senior Net Division, Phillip and Lorrie Ng finished with a two-under par 61.
