With a three-shot lead going into the final round, Ma turned in a 7-over par 79 to claim the championship with a two-day total of 8-over par, (73-79, 152).

Ma opened her round with a few early jitters, carding consecutive bogeys before righting the ship with pars on Nos. 5 and 6. She found her rhythm from there, putting together a bogey-free back nine to protect her lead and secure the title.

"It was so dramatic,” Ma claimed with a laugh. “I told all of my friends, ‘I’m not a leading player.’ I just tried my hardest the first day. And, on this last day I just tried to follow through and work hard. But, the first nine was tough.”

With the title on the line, and Shannon Rouillard close behind just one shot back, Ma sealed the victory in style by sinking a birdie on the 318-yard, par 4 18th hole.

"I’m really so happy with how I played on the back nine and how I finished,” Ma said.

The victory marks Ma’s first state title, capping off a stellar summer that included a quarterfinal appearance at the 13th Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, where she eventually caddied for three-time winner Kate Granahan in the semi-final and final rounds.

“This senior tournament is a great opportunity for us to be able to play,” Ma said. “It was a beautiful season.”

“I never thought I could win,” she continued. “I always just come to enjoy the course, play with my friends and make new friends. This is an encouragement to myself that I can do better, and that’s really important to me.”

Rouillard, of Watchung Valley Golf Club, finished three shots back of the lead to claim runner-up at 11-over par total (80-75, 155).

Anne Conway, of Little Mill Country Club, successfully defended her title and captured the 37th Women’s Super-Senior Championship. Entering the day with a three-shot lead, Conway secured her second consecutive victory with a strong back nine, highlighted by six straight pars from holes 11 through 16. With this win, she becomes the tenth player to win multiple Super-Senior titles and only the sixth to do so in back-to-back years.

“It feels great,” Conway said. “Yesterday, my up-and-down was great and my front nine was great. Today, my back was great because I was determined to turn it around after a bad front.”

“My husband inspired so much confidence in me,” Conway added. “He kept texting and really making me feel better and that helped. I had to calm myself down and just kept thinking of all his words of wisdom.”

The Super-Senior runner-up was Catherine Burger of Lake Mohawk Golf Club while Sandi Hasset of Heron Glen Golf Course claimed the Net Division title.
