Kim Claims Medal; Match Play Set at 72nd Junior Girls’ Championship

NEWARK, N.J. - Thirteen-year-old Jessica Kim turned in a 2-under par 68 to medal and earn the top seed in the 72nd New Jersey Golf Junior Girls’ Championship on Monday afternoon at Weequahic Golf Course.

“The greens on this course are very challenging, but I was able to manage through,” said Kim. “My putts were my strongest play today and helped me a lot.”

Fresh off earning medalist honors in U.S. Girls’ Junior qualifying at Haworth Country Club last week, Kim carded four birdies again today.

Three of Kim’s four birdies came within the first six holes; she birdied the par-5, 525-yard sixth hole as part of another impressive showing. Her round of 2-under par was the only subpar score recorded on the day,

“Golf is very unpredictable. I want to stay consistent, try to make as few mistakes as possible and hope for the best,” said Kim.

Kim finished as a semi-finalist in last year’s Championship and will be part of one of four pairings tomorrow. The first pair tees off at 7:30 a.m.

The champion of this week’s event will earn an exemption into the 2026 U.S. Junior Girls’ Championship at Old Chatham Golf Club.
