Holmdel’s Megha Ganne Wins U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship

BANDON, Ore. - The summer of New Jersey golf excellence added another chapter on Sunday as Holmdel native Megha Ganne captured the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes in Oregon.

Ganne, the 2018 New Jersey Junior Girls’ Champion and rising senior at Stanford University, defeated Brooke Biermann of Wildwood, Missouri, 4-and-3, in the 36-hole final. She built a 3-up lead after the morning round and closed out the match with a steady par on the 15th hole of the afternoon session — the 33rd hole overall.

With the victory, Ganne earns a spot on the 2026 U.S. Curtis Cup team — her second appearance after playing in 2022 — and an exemption into the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open.

Her win follows another major accomplishment for New Jersey golf this summer: Little Silver’s Chris Gotterup, the 2019 New Jersey Open champion, won the Genesis Scottish Open last month before finishing third at The Open Championship.

Ganne’s triumph is the first national championship for a New Jersey golfer since Marlboro’s Sherry Herman claimed the 2009 U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur.

“I just tried to play the first 18 like I was playing the golf course,” said Ganne in a post-match television interview.  “I knew the match really wouldn’t get started until the second round so just learning as much as I could about the course on the first go-round with these pin. I was able to take advantage and play some really solid golf. I can’t believe I’m standing here right now.

Ganne’s journey to the title nearly ended in Saturday’s semifinals. Trailing by four with seven holes to play, she staged a dramatic comeback, ultimately winning on the first extra hole to earn her spot in the final.

A familiar name in USGA competition, Ganne reached the semifinals of the Women’s Amateur in 2019 at just 15 years old, and as a junior at Holmdel High School in 2021, she shared the first-round lead at the U.S. Women’s Open and played in the final pairing on Sunday.

In this year’s final, Ganne came out strong with birdies on two of her first three holes to take an early 2-up lead. Biermann answered quickly, evening the match with birdies on the next two holes. All square through 11, Ganne found another gear, winning three consecutive holes with pars and taking a 3-up lead at the halfway mark.

Biermann briefly cut into the lead late, but Ganne’s steady play down the stretch — capped by a two-putt par on No. 15 — sealed a championship that cements her as one of New Jersey’s most accomplished amateur golfers.
