KENILWORTH, N.J. – The challenge of "Golf's Longest Day" once again lived up to its reputation, as competitors across North America battled through 36 holes of final qualifying on June 8 for a place in the 126th U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, June 18-21.
Among the 15 golfers with New Jersey ties who competed in final qualifying, only one advanced to the championship proper.
Max Greyserman of Short Hills secured his place in the field at Shinnecock Hills with rounds of 68-68, finishing at 6-under-par 136 at Golf Club of Purchase and Century Country Club in New York. The performance earned Greyserman his fourth career U.S. Open appearance.
The 31-year-old PGA Tour professional opened the day with a bogey-free 4-under-par 68 at Golf Club of Purchase before adding a 2-under-par 68 at Century Country Club. After beginning his afternoon round with a bogey on his opening hole, the 10th, Greyserman quickly responded with three consecutive birdies on holes 11, 12 and 13 to move into qualifying position and ultimately secure his spot in the championship field.
Greyserman has enjoyed recent success in the national championship, making the cut at both the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club and the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
The U.S. Open returns to Shinnecock Hills for the sixth time, with the championship set for June 18-21.
