Gotterup Storms Back to Capture WM Phoenix Open

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Beginning the final round four strokes behind Hideki Matsuyama, Chris Gotterup mounted a dramatic comeback, firing a final-round 7-under-par 64 to force a playoff and claim the WM Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale for his fourth PGA TOUR victory.

Gotterup, the season-opening Sony Open champion, finished with five birdies over his final six holes to complete the rally. In the playoff, Matsuyama found the water off the tee while Gotterup split the fairway. Gotterup then rolled in a 27-foot birdie putt to seal the victory.

“I'm just really enjoying being out here right now, and I'm having fun,” Gotterup explained following his victory. “I feel confident in what I'm doing and feel like I have played well enough to feel confident to be able to be in those positions. So far, I've been able to capitalize on those, and I'm excited for the rest of the year.”

Following his win, Gotterup jumped 11 spots to fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking.
