Eric Houseknecht, Past President of NJ Golf, Receives USGA Service Award

PINEHURST, N.C. - The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced on Saturday evening that Eric Houseknecht, president of what was previously the New Jersey State Golf Association from 2020-21, is among the six recipients of the Ike B. Grainger Award, which recognizes 25 years of service as a volunteer committee member for the USGA.

"The time I’ve spent volunteering with the USGA and NJ Golf has been very fulfilling," expressed Houseknecht. "I’ve met so many outstanding people and been to so many amazing places that I view the opportunity to serve these organizations as a privilege. Having my name added to the Ike Grainger Award alongside those of many other dedicated volunteers whom I’ve admired for decades is a very humbling experience."

Houseknecht, a dedicated NJ Golf volunteer since 2008, has played a vital role in the organization for many years. He has been a member of the NJ Golf Executive Committee since 2014 and was elected to the NJ Golf Board of Trustees in 2011. In addition to his leadership roles, he continues to serve as a tournament rules official for NJ Golf and USGA Championships.

Established in 1995, the Issac B. Grainger Award is named after the USGA’s president from 1954-1955. Grainger led the USGA effort to develop the first unified code of the Rules of Golf with The R&A in 1951.

The USGA recognized the recipients at its Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday, March 1, in Pinehurst, North Carolina during the organization’s Annual Meeting.
