Alex, Foehl and Komline Selected to New Jersey Golf Hall of Fame

KENILWORTH, N.J. - New Jersey Golf has announced the members of the Class of 2025 Hall of Fame which features some of the game’s top players and administrators.

The class is headlined by players Marina Alex and Brian Komline, and former NJ Golf Executive Director, Steve Foehl.

“As we celebrate the 125th anniversary of our organization, it’s only fitting to honor an exceptional class of inductees,” expressed NJ Golf Executive Director, Kevin Purcell. “Steve Foehl’s 25 years of leadership at the organization not only expanded our programs but also strengthened our influence in the golf community. Brian and Marina, widely regarded as the best golfers of their generation, still have much to contribute to the game. Yet, at this milestone moment for NJ Golf their induction into our Hall of Fame feels especially meaningful.”

Marina Alex retired from professional golf at the end of the 2024 LPGA Tour season. After a stellar career, Alex compiled two career victories and 35 career top-10s.

Prior to turning professional in 2012, Alex, a Wayne native built an impressive amateur career. Statewide, Alex won the 2003 New Jersey Junior Girls’ Championship and won back-to-back high school individual championships playing for Wayne Hills High School. In 2005, Alex finished as runner-up in the New Jersey Women's Amateur Championship at Rumson Country Club.

She went on to play collegiately at Vanderbilt University, where she won the 2010 Southeastern Conference Women’s Championship as a sophomore, finished runner-up as a senior, and earned Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American status in 2010 and 2012.

Alex becomes the 11th woman enshrined into the NJ Golf Hall of Fame. She is also a member of the Vanderbilt Athletics Hall of Fame.

With a golf administration career that began in 1977, Steve Foehl, longtime Executive Director of New Jersey Golf has championed golf in the Garden State for over 48 years and counting.

Under Foehl’s leadership, the organization saw unprecedented growth. Member clubs increased from 150 to 280, individual membership (measured as GHIN handicaps) increased from 24,000 to over 75,000 and the average number of caddie scholarships increased from 115 to 200 annually. Furthermore, Foehl was foundational in elevating the competitive players' experience. In his first season leading the organization, the championship schedule consisted of 12 events conducted over 29 days. By 2014, the schedule included 24 championships encompassing more than 60 days, along with qualifiers for six USGA championships.

In addition, at a time when technology was evolving quickly, Foehl oversaw the creation of the organization's magazine, the development of its first website, Member Golf Days, and more.

During his tenure, Foehl served on the board of directors of the National Golf Foundation, and the advisory board of the New Jersey Turfgrass Foundation, as well as serving a term as President of the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

In recognition of his services, Foehl received the USGA’s Ike Grainger Award in 2007 for 25 years of service as a USGA volunteer as well as the IAGA Distinguished Service Award in 2016.

Foehl remains involved to this day as a valued consultant and advisor to NJ Golf.

Brian Komline has shined on the New Jersey Golf scene for years. He is the only competitor to have won all four of the major (Open, Amateur, Mid-Amateur, Four-Ball) championships conducted by New Jersey Golf.

From 2005 through 2012, Komline put together one of the most impressive amateur resumes in Garden State history. In that span, Komline went on to collect two Open Championships (2005, 2007), two Four-Ball Championships (2008, 2010), the Amateur (2010), Mid-Amateur (2012), the Public Links (2008) as well as served as a member of four winning Stoddard Trophy squads.

He remains a standout on the golf course. After a brief break from competitive play, Komline returned to form at the 2024 Pre-Senior Championship, finishing just one stroke behind four-time champion Gregg Angelillo.

The 2025 NJ Golf Hall of Fame induction will take place on Tuesday, April 29 at Essex County Country Club in West Orange. Information regarding ticket sales and full details of the evening will be announced in the coming weeks.
