Headline of the Week 

New Jersey Native Chris Gotterup Finishes Top 10 in PGA Championship 

Chris Gotterup made his way back to the East Coast this past week for the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club. The familiar territory paid dividends for the former Rutgers grad as he finished top 10, scoring a –3. Heavy winds and rain in Pennsylvania played a major role in the tournament, causing World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to shoot an unremarkable +1 in Round 2. What was a problem for most proved insignificant for Gotterup, posting a -5, including three straight birdies, during Round 2.  

The top 10 finish is Gotterup’s fourth of 2026 and marks his best finish at the PGA Championship. Previously, Gotterup missed the cut after finishing at +3 through two rounds in 2024. The strong Round 2 score of 65 pushed him to a Top 10 finish and keeps him in the Top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings.  

Gotterup’s next stop will be in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Charles Schwab Challenge, taking place May 18-21.

• The NCAA DI Women's National Championship at Omni La Costa Resort gets underway May 22-25 with several New Jersey golfers, Katie Li (Duke), Megha Ganne (Stanford), Megan Meng (Northwestern) competing. (Learn More) 

• Several New Jersey golfers are competing in the 43rd GAP Middle Amateur Championship at Jeffersonville Golf Club. (Learn More) 

Junior & High School Golf 

• Rory Asselta will be playing in the AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational at Pelican Golf Club in Florida May 21-24. (Learn More) 

• Aphrodite Deng, Rayee Feng, Vidhki Lakhawala and Ysabel Liu will be competing in the Nelly Invitational Presented by Chevron from May 23-26. (Learn More) 

NJ Golf Community 

• The LPGA Tour returns to New Jersey this month as the ShopRite Classic heads to Seaview, bringing many of the world’s top players to the state. Volunteer opportunities are still open. (Learn More) 

• The Heroes Tour provides competitive golf opportunities for active military personnel, veterans and first responders (firefighters, law enforcement, paramedics & EMTs). All skill levels are welcome. Tournaments feature a gross and net division. (Learn More)

• Entries remain open for multiple 2026 USGA championships. (Learn More) 

• United States Golf Association (USGA) announced its 2026 U.S. National Development Program (USNDP) Grant Program athletes. In total, 124 athletes representing 32 states and ranging in age from 13-18 will receive more than $1.1 million in financial assistance. (Learn More)
