U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Arrives at Historic Montclair Golf Club

WEST ORANGE, N.J . - The 39th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship will have a strong New Jersey presence when the nation’s top mid-amateur players descend on Montclair Golf Club in West Orange from Aug. 29-Sept. 3.

Among the 132-player field are several competitors with ties to New Jersey Golf, including Alice Chen, Kate Granahan, Hana Ku, Megan Voetsch and Catherine Kim.

Chen, a New Jersey native, returns to the amateur ranks after spending several years as a professional, including time competing on the Epson Tour, before recently being reinstated as an amateur. She has built an impressive résumé in the Garden State, winning two New Jersey Women’s Amateur Championships, two New Jersey Women’s Public Links Championships and two New Jersey Junior Girls Championships, while also capturing a New Jersey Women’s Four-Ball title alongside Allison Herring.

Granahan has similarly established herself as one of the state’s top mid-amateur players, winning the New Jersey Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship three times. She also enters the week with recent success on the national stage after advancing to the Round of 16 at the 2025 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur.

Kim is another familiar name to New Jersey Golf, having competed in both the New Jersey Women’s Mid-Amateur and New Jersey Women’s Open, while Ku and Voetsch add to the local connections in the field.

The New Jersey ties extend to the host venue, where championship golf has been part of Montclair Golf Club’s history for more than a century. Montclair first hosted the New Jersey Amateur in 1902 and has since welcomed numerous New Jersey Golf championships, including eight New Jersey Women’s Amateurs, six New Jersey Amateurs and seven New Jersey Opens. Most recently, the club hosted the inaugural New Jersey Women’s Open in 2023.

Montclair’s championship history stretches to the national stage as well. Founded in 1893, the club previously hosted the 1973 U.S. Women’s Amateur, won by Carol Semple Thompson, and the 1985 U.S. Amateur, won by Sam Randolph. The 2026 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur will become the third USGA championship hosted by Montclair Golf Club.

The championship will be contested over Montclair’s second and third nines, playing at 5,763 yards and a par of 70. Players will compete in 36 holes of stroke play on Aug. 29-30, with the low 64 advancing to match play before the championship culminates with an 18-hole final on Thursday, Sept. 3.

This year will mark just the second U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur contested in New Jersey, joining the 1997 championship at Atlantic City Country Club, won by Carol Semple Thompson.
