Two Teams Advance to U.S. Amateur Four-Ball at Watchung Valley
WATCHUNG, N.J. – Three teams finished tied atop the leaderboard at 8-under par, 63, with two qualifying spots available for the 12th U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship following a qualifying round at Watchung Valley Golf Club on Tuesday. The duo of Blake Meek and Matthew Ferriero of North Carolina and the pair of Caleb Taylor and Brockton English, of Maryland and Michigan, respectively, ultimately claimed the two qualifying spots after a three-team playoff. The championship will be held at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis., from May 22-26, 2027.
Meek and Ferriero, Taylor and English and the team of Kyle Williams and Eric Montella each carded an 8-under par, 63 on the 6,828-yard, par-71 layout to force a playoff for the two available qualifying positions.
After the three teams remained tied through the first two playoff holes, the qualifying spots were decided on the third extra hole, the 503-yard, par-5. Meek and Ferriero made eagle to secure their spot at Erin Hills, while Taylor and English followed with a birdie to claim the second qualifying position. Williams and Montella made par to finish as the first alternates.
Matthew Porter and Alexander Gutesha claimed the second alternate spot, turning in a 6-under par 65.
