PREVIEW: 4th New Jersey Women’s Open Championship
SUMMIT, N.J. – Although still one of New Jersey Golf's newest championships, the New Jersey Women's Open has quickly established itself as one of the state's premier competitions, bringing together the region's top professionals and accomplished amateurs in a championship that continues to grow in prestige.
Now in its fourth edition, the championship returns August 4-5 to Canoe Brook Country Club's North Course, where another talented field will compete for the New Jersey Women's Open Trophy.
The Women's Open showcases the depth of women's golf throughout New Jersey and beyond, providing professionals and amateurs the opportunity to compete side-by-side on one of the state's finest championship venues. With a $20,000 professional purse and one of the strongest fields assembled each summer, the championship continues to elevate its standing among regional women's events.
Founded in 1901, Canoe Brook Country Club has long been recognized as one of New Jersey's most distinguished clubs. Nestled in the rolling hills of Summit, the club features two championship courses that have welcomed some of the game's finest players while serving as the host of numerous prestigious state, regional and national competitions.
Canoe Brook's championship résumé includes hosting the U.S. Women's Amateur in 1936, 1983 and 1990, with the North Course serving as the venue for the latter two championships. That history makes it a fitting stage for the fourth edition of the New Jersey Women's Open.
The North Course, which will host this year's championship, provides a classic test that rewards precision, strategy and disciplined shot-making. Players will be challenged by tree-lined fairways, demanding approach shots and subtly contoured greens that place a premium on consistency over two rounds of competition.
As the championship enters its fourth year, another chapter will be added to the growing legacy of the New Jersey Women's Open, with one player earning the opportunity to hoist the New Jersey Women's Open Trophy at one of the state's most historic clubs.
Championship HQ
Format
The championship will be contested over 36 holes of stroke play, with 18 holes played on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
The player with the lowest 36-hole aggregate score will be crowned champion and awarded the New Jersey Women's Open Trophy.
In the event of a tie for the championship, a hole-by-hole playoff will determine the winner.
A Senior Division will also be contested for players age 50 and older.
A Look Back
The 3rd New Jersey Women's Open at Bedens Brook Club saw amateur Vaidehi Shah capture the championship after posting a two-round total of 2-under-par 144.
Shah followed an opening-round 74 with a tournament-best 4-under-par 70 to rally to victory, becoming the third champion in championship history. Her closing round showcased the steady play required to navigate one of New Jersey's premier championship venues and earned her a place on the growing list of Women's Open champions.
Inside the Field
The championship once again features a strong blend of professionals, elite amateurs, collegiate standouts and rising junior players from New Jersey and across the region.
The field includes past champions, accomplished LPGA professionals, collegiate standouts and many of the state's top-ranked amateurs, creating one of the strongest women's fields assembled each season.
With professionals and amateurs competing side-by-side for the New Jersey Women's Open title, the championship continues to provide a unique competitive atmosphere while showcasing the continued growth of women's golf throughout the Garden State.
