New Scholarship House to Serve More Than 40 Evans Scholars at Rutgers University
KENILWORTH, N.J, - New Jersey Golf and the Caddie Scholarship Foundation joined the Western Golf Association and Evans Scholars Foundation, Rutgers University, Liberty National Foundation and Liberty National Golf Club in July to mark the official start of renovations on the future home of the Rutgers Evans Scholars.
Jameson Hall D, located on Rutgers University's New Brunswick campus, is being renovated to become the Liberty National NJSGA Evans Scholars Scholarship House, providing Rutgers Evans Scholars with a permanent place to live, study, build community and develop as leaders.
The new residence represents a significant milestone for a program that began at Rutgers with its first cohort of three Evans Scholars in the fall of 2022. Four years later, the program has grown to include more than 40 students, with the scholarship house scheduled to open next summer.
“The Evans Scholars Foundation has become one of Rutgers New Brunswick's most impactful philanthropic partners, providing tuition and housing each year to more than 40 of our undergraduate students. Through this extraordinary investment, talented young people, many of whom are here today, have been able to pursue a Rutgers's education while becoming part of a community defined by academic excellence, leadership, and service,” said Rutgers Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Jason Geary on behalf of Chancellor Francine Conway.
The newly renovated residence will give scholars a shared home on campus where they can build lifelong friendships, develop as leaders and support one another academically and personally. The dedicated space will also help preserve the close-knit environment of the Rutgers Evans Scholars chapter as the program continues to grow.
“This fall, we will have 49 scholars attending Rutgers University: three as alumni, 10 seniors, 16 juniors, 13 sophomores, and a set of freshmen. That growth is exciting, but it brings the same challenge of creating a tight-knit community on a larger scale. Our new scholarship house at James D. Hall will help us solve this issue. It brings every scholar into one space. We can finally call our own something we have never previously had,” said Rutgers Evans Scholar chapter president Kenneth Maher.
Maher and Geary were joined at the announcement by many of the individuals and organizations that have helped make the scholarship house possible, including Liberty National founder and executive chairman Dan Fireman, Western Golf Association Senior Vice President Jeff Harrison and members of the New Jersey Golf Board of Directors, including Caddie Scholarship Foundation Chairman Brian Hunt.
“The opening of the Liberty National NJSGA Evans Scholars Scholarship House will help turn the dreams of these hard-working students into a well-deserved reality,” said Hunt. “The Evans Scholars Program has already made a tremendous impact on so many young men and women, and this new home will provide even more opportunities for future scholars. NJ Golf and the CSF are incredibly proud to partner in creating a place these students can call home as they pursue their education and their futures.”
The scholarship house marks the latest step in the continued growth of the Evans Scholars Program in New Jersey. Through the support of the Western Golf Association, Evans Scholars Foundation, New Jersey Golf, Liberty National and its donors, student caddies are provided opportunities that extend beyond financial assistance, creating a network of scholars centered around education, leadership and service.
With the opening of the Liberty National NJSGA Evans Scholars Scholarship House next summer, that growing network of Rutgers Evans Scholars will have a dedicated place on campus to call home.
