New Jersey National Golf Club Hosts 78th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship Qualifier
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. –– Five players punched their tickets to the 78th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship after a qualifying round at New Jersey National Golf Club on Monday, June 29. Terrence Deng (Canada) earned medalist honors after firing in a 3-under par 69 on the 6,670-yard course.
Deng, 16, carded four birdies, including one on the 537-yard par 5 thirteenth hole, to take the top spot on the leaderboard early in the afternoon.
Rounding out the qualifying spots on the leaderboard were Jake Hollerback, of Millsboro, Del., who finished at 2-under-par 70, with Maxx Zides of North Attleboro, Mass., and Nemo Tsai of Ann Arbor, Mich following close behind with scores of 1-under-par 71.
With only five spots available, a three-for-one playoff took place between Stephen Miklos, Finley Gastrau, and Luke Kowalkchik where a win on No. 18, 521-yard par 5, earned Kowalchik the final championship spot.
Stephen Miklos (Connecticut) was named the first alternate, while Finley Gastrau (Switzerland) is the second alternate.
The 78th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be held at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. from July 20-25.
