Medalist Inha Jun to Face Jessica Kim in 71st Junior Girls’ Championship Final
UNION, N.J. - With an exemption to the 2025 U.S. Girls’ Junior on the line, top seed Inha Jun will take on Jessica Kim in the 71st New Jersey Junior Girls’ Championship at Suburban Golf Club.
Jun, the stroke play medalist closed out both her quarterfinal and semifinal matches on the 15th hole. Due to the temperatures nearing 100 degrees, NJ Golf permitted players to use golf carts in the afternoon.
“The heat definitely got to me in my first match, but thank God that NJ Golf allowed us to use golf carts for the second round,” Jun said following her semifinal victory. “I was able to rest in between my shots. That really helped me and just staying hydrated and rested was the key to winning today.”
In her semifinal bout, Jun went on a run on the back nine, winning holes 10 through 15 to secure the victory over Christine Park.
“Hitting it well off the tee was really important today,” Jun added. "I gave myself good looks with my second shots and trying to roll in as many putts as I could today. I had some good lag putts that gave me an easy par putt.”
For Kim, 12, she took down Ysabel Liu in the morning match, and proceeded to defeat Eleanor Lim 3 and 2 after a late charge from Lim.
“The heat was a big obstacle and a challenge,” Kim agreed. “The two people that I played were definitely amazing players and I look up to them as golfers. It felt nice to win two in a row, but I also feel like I got a little lucky today with some of my shots. Since we were able to ride carts I was able to restore my health and my stamina and be able to try and focus.”
The championship match will begin at 8 a.m.
