McGovern put up an impressive showing, shooting a two-day total of 1-under par 139, including a second-day low of 69 to best the field.

“It’s a great feeling” McGovern said after the final round on Wednesday. “I feel really good. I played good both days. I didn't putt particularly well, but I just kept hitting greens,” McGovern continued.

Playing against amateur Tom Gramigna of Tavistock Country Club in a two-hole playoff, the duo halved the first playoff hole, the par-4 18th to send the pair to the next for a chance to win. A rainy crowd of onlookers, including McGovern’s brother Jim, watched as McGovern made a par on the second playoff hole, the par-4 ninth hole, to clinch the trophy.

“Always good to be the low McGovern,” he joked after the final playoff hole. “I always feel like if I could beat Jimmy, I have a shot to win. It doesn't happen often, but the support's good.”

McGovern entered the second round of play even-par and tied for ninth. His final round was highlighted by five birdies and a comfortable pairing.

“I had a great pairing,” McGovern said. “I played with Pete Springstead. I’ve known Pete my whole life. We just chit chatted our way around,” he continued. “Had a good day and hit a lot of good shots.”

Despite constant rainfall, McGovern felt good throughout his round.

“It really didn't bother me too much,” McGovern explained about the weather. “Getting used to it with the weather we've had this spring, so it's been great.”
