Major Changes for Upcoming South Jersey Cup

KENILWORTH, NEW JERSEY - The South Jersey Cup – long recognized as NJ Golf’s most anticipated late-season championship – is being reimagined.

Beginning with this year’s edition on Monday, October 19 at Atlantic City Country Club, the event will shift to become a competition for the top male amateurs in the state – featuring a final opportunity to gain Player of the Year points as the season winds down.

“We believe this format change will add excitement to our late-season championship schedule,” said Brad Bardon, NJ Golf Director of Championships. “With one final opportunity to earn Player of the Year points and compete for 2027 exemptions, it’s a strong finish to the championship season,” Bardon added.

The South Jersey Cup will now be an invitational event based on the Robert Housen Player of the Year points standings and the Senior Player of the Year points standings. 72 players will comprise the championship field, with 16 of the 72 spaces designated for Senior (age 55+) players. On or around August 24, the first batch of invitations will be sent to players in the overall Player of the Year points standings, and on (or around) September 7, the first batch of invitations will be sent to the top players in the Senior Player of the Year points standings.

Entries from the above invited groups will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. After a period of approximately two weeks, additional invitations will be sent to those further down the two points lists and entries will be accepted on a space-available basis (also first-come, first-served) until registration closes.

The entry fee is $250 per player which includes a light breakfast, golf, cart, lunch reception, prizes and awards.

There is a charitable component to this event as well. $50 from each entry fee will be donated to the Gail Reilly Scholarship Fund. The scholarship, named in honor of the former South Jersey Golf Association president, is merit-based and is available to high school seniors from counties across southern Jersey including Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem.

Steeped in history and prestige, Atlantic City Country Club is one of New Jersey’s truly magnificent venues. Opened in 1897, the club has hosted six national championships and is known as the “Birthplace of the Birdie”.
