Klarreich opened up his round with a bang, tallying four birdies in a row to start before stumbling with two double bogeys to close out his front nine at even par. The 17-year-old regained his momentum on the back nine carding birdies on holes 11, 13 and 18 to finish 1-under for the day.

“I hit my driver really well,” Klarreich said after his round. “I made 8 birdies out there. I had two doubles on the front nine and then I thought I played well on the back nine coming in with three pars and a birdie on 18.”

Cohen, 18, birdied his first hole of the afternoon which helped set the tone for a fairly steady round. After two early bogeys, Cohen settled in nicely playing his final 12 holes at a bogey-free, 2-under par.

“I hit it pretty good,” Cohen said. “I missed a couple of short ones coming down the stretch, but my goal was to just play, make pars, and make it the match play. That’s all that matters.”

The Round of 16 will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.
