Kim, Roland Share Medalist Honors; Match Play Set at 13th Women's Mid-Amateur Championship
CLIFTON, N.J. - Alyssa Roland of Watchung Valley Golf Club and Catherine Kim of Liberty National Golf Club each shot a 2-over par 74 at Upper Montclair Country Club’s South and West Courses to share medalist honors at the 13th Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.
Roland, 37, collected three birdies en route to co-medlalist honors. Opening with a bogey, Roland bounced back with a birdie to shoot an even par on the front nine and felt she had a little extra support on the course today.
“I feel really good, I was striking it really well,” said Roland. “My grandfather, who got me into golf, passed away yesterday so it was a little emotional. I was really happy with how I was striking it, and thought about him a lot, asked for some good luck up there and he pulled through.”
Roland was a semifinalist in the 2024 New Jersey Women’s Amateur at Watchung Valley and will enter match play as the two seed behind Kim by way of order of finish. Kim had a bogey-free front nine, propelling her to the top.
Kim, 29, sank a birdie on the 450-yard par-five second hole as part of the California native’s strong showing. Kim closed her round with two pars to cap off her first NJ Golf event.
“I thought it was a really fair setup,” said Kim. “Fairways are tight, there were some pins that were tucked. You had to really be dialed with distances and I thought this was a very well-set-up event and the course is really great.”
“Fairways and greens, I really liked the front nine,” said Kim. “Every shot suited my eye and I wish I could have capitalized on a few more birdie opporutnities.”
Upper Montclair played 5,979 yards on Wednesday.
Following closely behind, defending Women's Mid-Amateur Champion Daria Delfino turned in a 4-over par 76, while three-time Mid-Amateur Champion Samantha Perrotta also finished at 4-over par 76.
The low eight scorers advanced to match play, which will begin at 7:30 a.m.
