Kanters Capture Inaugural Parent Child Championship at Preakness Hills Country Club

WAYNE, N.J. –– Posting an impressive net score of 9-under par 63, the hometown duo of Andy and Jared Kanter took home the Inaugural Parent Child Championship at Preakness Hills Country Club. The pair battled through an exceptionally hot afternoon with three net eagles to highlight their card.

“We started off double bogey, and I was like, ‘alright let’s just enjoy it and have fun,” Jared Kanter said. “Then we made a bunch of birdies and it was pretty amazing.” 

The Preakness Hills pair put together a strong front nine, including one eagle and three birdies.  

“My son was great,” Andy Kanter said. “He hit some phenomenal shots and set me up. Fortunately, I made some good putts. We ham and egged it very well together.” 

The father and son duo have been playing together for over 20 years, and were able to close out the afternoon with a win on their home course.  

“We've just learned to play with each other and have patience,” Jared Kanter said. “That's the most important thing is just have patience with him. It’s a great experience.”  

In gross scoring, John and Jason Welch carded an impressive 7–under par 65 to take home the top spot. The Metedeconk National Golf Club pairing made an impressive six birdies and one eagle on the afternoon on their way to victory. 

“We definitely brought our 'A-plus' games today,” John Kanter said. “We just played smart. We complemented each other really well and we communicated with each other really well out there. I think that was a big part of our success.”  

“I'm just happy to be playing with my son today,” Jason Welch said. “We play a lot of golf together and it's just a bond that we have. Golf does that. It gives you the opportunity to bond with your children.”  

Rounding out the top three spots in the Net Division were Joseph and Matthew Castelli of Hominy Hill Golf Course at net 7-under, 65 in second and after a match of cards following a three-way tie in third, the duo of Shawn and Marc Yudkin at 6-under, 66.
