Gotterup Claims Third PGA TOUR Victory; Wins Sony Open Championship
HONOLULU, Hawaii - 2019 New Jersey Open Champion Chris Gotterup claimed his third PGA TOUR victory on Sunday, winning the Sony Open in Hawaii. The 26-year-old captured the title by two strokes at Waialae Country Club.
Following the win, Gotterup said the course reminded him of home.
“I’ve had a lot more homes than I planned on, but it reminds me of New Jersey because of the way this course sets up, it’s very old school,” Gotterup said. “I know this is a Seth Raynor design, and just the way you play the course, it feels a lot like Plainfield or Baltusrol. Obviously the grass is different and the views are different, but the way you play the golf course reminds me a lot of how I grew up playing. That’s a comforting feeling.”
Gotterup entered the final round trailing 54-hole leader Davis Riley by two strokes. With the victory, he is now fully exempt on the PGA TOUR through 2028.
