Galantini Siblings Capture Second Mixed Pinehurst Championship
BLOOMFIELD, N.J. –– Brother-and-sister duo Samantha Galantini and Tyler Galantini of Montclair Golf Club captured their second Mixed Pinehurst title, firing a 5-under par 66 at Forest Hill Field Club during the 60th Mixed Pinehurst Championship on Tuesday afternoon.
The Galantini siblings, who previously won the championship in 2024 at Maplewood Country Club, became the third team since 2000 to win multiple Mixed Pinehurst Championships.
What began as a sluggish start on No. 8 quickly turned into a birdie barrage, as the pair carded five birdies during a six-hole stretch from Nos. 11-16.
“I hit a few shots to tap-in range for Tyler for birdie, so that really helped us get going,” said Samantha Galantini, a rising senior on the Quinnipiac women’s golf team. “Tyler rolled in a few putts, and that helped the momentum early on.”
“Someone’s gotta get hot at some point, and we found the right putter at the right time,” added Tyler Galantini, a former Wagner golf standout.
Having runners-up Kate Granahan and Stephen Boyd alongside them provided the Galantinis with an extra push as they worked to maintain their position atop the leaderboard.
“It’s amazing playing with great players, and we had a great time with them today,” Tyler said. “They pushed us to be better.”
Their torrid opening stretch eventually gave way to a steadier finish, with the Galantinis adding two more birdies over their final nine holes. Their opening hole, the 186-yard par-3 eighth, and their final hole, No. 9, proved to be their only bogeys of the day.
Samantha credited their pressure-free mindset for allowing the siblings to play at a high level throughout the long, hot day.
“I said to Tyler going into today, ‘We want to play well and win, but it’s really all about having fun,’” Samantha said. “We could play really badly, but he and I get to play a golf tournament together. That doesn’t really ever happen.”
Four consecutive birdies from Nos. 11-14 created enough early separation for the siblings to ultimately hoist the trophy for the second time in three years. The championship also provided one final summer memory together before Samantha heads back to school.
“It stings because she’s going back to school in a week,” Tyler said. “It’s a great bonding opportunity, and it’s always a great time when I get to play with her because it doesn’t happen as much as it used to.”
Kevin Anderson and Donna Mummert finished at 1-under par 71 to capture the Senior Gross Division title and also carded a net score of 7-under par 67 to earn Senior Net honors.
In the Overall Net Division, Tristan Shaw and Jennifer Kurucz used three net eagles to power their way to a 13-under par 58 and the division title.
