Davidson Claims 55th W.Y. Dear Boys Championship

ESSEX FELLS, N.J. –– Jack Davidson of Canoe Brook Country Club captured the 55th Boys Championship at Essex Fells Country Club on Monday afternoon. With a score of 3-over par 73, Davidson finished the round with a crucial birdie on his final hole to claim the victory.
“I'm just overjoyed,” Davidson said after the match. “I'm so happy I was able to stay locked in on No. 18 and hit a good shot in there and make the putt.”
Davidson, 13, had two birdies on the front nine, including one on the 519-yard par 5 first hole. With two bogeys to round out his front nine score, Davidson dialed in through the turn and strung together a crucial five straight pars to keep himself in contention. Despite a double bogey on No. 17, Davidson calmed the nerves and made a key birdie on the 316-yard par-4 18th to seal the deal.
“Around the 13th hole I realized I was playing it short, and then I started hitting some good shots and getting it going,” Davidson said. " I had a tough shot on 17, the nerves kind of got me there, but I'm very happy on how I finished.”
Luke Lepone, Axel Brandes, and Michael Kim finished in a tie for second behind Davidson at 4-over par, 74.
