Celebrating #ThankASuper Day: Honoring the Unsung Heroes of the Game

KENILWORTH, N.J. - Golfers across New Jersey and around the world took time on September 9 to celebrate Thank a Golf Course Superintendent Day, a global initiative recognizing the tireless work of superintendents and their teams.

Now in its fifth year, the campaign is led by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) in partnership with global organizations including the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA), the Australian Sports Turf Managers Association (ASTMA), the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA), and the Federation of European Golf Greenkeepers Associations (FEGGA). Collectively, these groups represent more than 31,000 golf course management professionals across 78 countries, all united in a shared mission to care for the game’s most vital resource — the golf course.

Here in New Jersey, the celebration carries a special weight. Superintendents across the Garden State are the ones who make it possible for golfers to enjoy pristine fairways, smooth greens, and championship-level conditions. Whether preparing for state tournaments or ensuring everyday rounds go off seamlessly, these professionals are the foundation of the game.

Golfers, club members, and communities are encouraged not only to thank their superintendents, but also to reflect on the broader impact of their work. From water conservation to wildlife habitat preservation, superintendents play a critical role in advancing sustainability while providing the exceptional conditions golfers enjoy daily.

As New Jersey Golf celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, it proudly extends its gratitude to all of the state’s golf course superintendents and maintenance teams.

So the next time you step onto the first tee, take a moment to look at the beauty and playability of the course around you — and remember the dedication behind it.

On behalf of golfers everywhere: Thank you, supers.
