Steve Foehl

With a golf administration career that began in 1977, Steve Foehl, longtime Executive Director of New Jersey Golf has championed golf in the Garden State for over 48 years and counting.

Under Foehl’s leadership, the organization saw unprecedented growth. Member clubs increased from 150 to 280, individual membership (measured as GHIN handicaps) increased from 24,000 to over 75,000 and the average number of caddie scholarships increased from 115 to 200 annually. Furthermore, Foehl was foundational in elevating the competitive players' experience. In his first season leading the organization, the championship schedule consisted of 12 events conducted over 29 days. By 2014, the schedule included 24 championships encompassing more than 60 days, along with qualifiers for six USGA championships.

In addition, at a time when technology was evolving quickly, Foehl oversaw the creation of the organization's magazine, the development of its first website, Member Golf Days, and more.

During his tenure, Foehl served on the board of directors of the National Golf Foundation, and the advisory board of the New Jersey Turfgrass Foundation, as well as serving a term as President of the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

In recognition of his services, Foehl received the USGA’s Ike Grainger Award in 2007 for 25 years of service as a USGA volunteer as well as the IAGA Distinguished Service Award in 2016.

Foehl remains involved to this day as a valued consultant and advisor to NJ Golf.
